ROGER HODGSON IN ALMERIA Published by Spanish web “PORTALMERIA” October 18, 2007 Hundreds of people from Almeria reviewed with Roger Hodgson all the unforgettable hits of Supertramp. Who was the leader of that mythical band performed a superb concert in the auditorium. Classic bands never die, neither their songs. Last night Supertramp sounded again with all its power in the Maestro Padilla auditorium thanks to Roger Hodgson, vocalist and keyboardist of the British band. He moved all his fans to the missed era of progressive rock, when Supertramp ruled. The show, planned by Almeria’s Culture Department, offered the best of one of the greatest songwriters and singers of rock history. He played a large repertoire which included the songs that catapulted Supertramp to international stardom. Nearly 1.000 people forgot their yearning to revive again every song, enjoying all of them with Roger Hodgson, who proved his high quality as a musician playing piano, keyboards and guitar. The concert opened with ‘Take the long way home’, one of his greatest anthems which gives its name to the DVD he recorded live in Montreal last year. He recreated this audiovisual work almost completely during over two hours, and was accompanied by Aaron MacDonald, who played woodwinds, piano and even did the backing vocals very well. Roger Hodgson sang with his unmistakable voice wonderful songs like ‘Lovers in the wind’, ‘Hide in your shell’, ‘Sister Moonshine’, some songs from his latest solo album ‘Open the door’ like ‘Along came Mary’ or ‘The more I look’, and his great hit ‘The logical song’. Then he took a well deserved rest. Alter the break, he played ‘The meaning’, ‘Breakfast in America’, the electronic ‘Child of vision’ and ‘Lord is it mine’. Hodgson spoke many times to the devoted audience thanking their enthusiasm and saying it was his first visit to Almeria but he liked the city very much. “When you are in the countryside or in the mountain, looking at the stars in the night, did you feel anytime you are part of the Universe? It’s a wonderful feeling I experienced a couple of times. One of those times I had mi guitar with me and I wrote this song”, he said to introduce the acoustic ‘Even in the quietest moments’. At the end of the show came the more powerful and tremendous moments, with all the people standing on their feet, clapping and singing songs like ‘Dreamer’ or ‘It´s raining again’, and the encores ‘School’ and ‘Give a little bit’. “Gracias, people from Almeria”, were the words the British musician said goodbye with, but before that he shook his hands with the people in the first rows of the stands. El que fuera líder de la mítica banda ofreció un soberbio concierto en el Auditorio. Los grandes clásicos nunca mueren, ni sus canciones. Supertramp, volvió a sonar con toda su fuerza anoche en el Auditorio Maestro Padilla de manos de Roger Hodgson, vocalista y teclista de la banda británica que trasladó a los cientos de seguidores asistentes a la añorada etapa del rock progresivo, en la que Supertramp eran amos y señores. El concierto, organizado por la Concejalía de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Almería, ofreció lo mejor de uno de los más grandes compositores y vocalistas de la historia del rock que interpretó un amplio repertorio en el que no faltaron las canciones que catapultaron a su banda a lo más alto del panorama musical internacional. Casi 1.000 espectadores dejaron la añoranza a un lado para revivir y disfrutar canción tras canción junto a un Roger Hogdson que demostró su virtuosismo interpretativo alternando, según la canción, entre el piano, teclado y guitarra. La actuación abrió con ‘Take the long way home’, uno de sus grandes himnos, que además da título al DVD que grabó el año pasado en Montreal. Un trabajo audiovisual que recreó casi al completo durante las más de dos horas de actuación, en la que Hogdson estuvo acompañado por Aaron MacDonald, quien manejó los instrumentos de viento, el piano, e incluso hizo la vez de coros con gran solvencia. Roger Hodgson interpretó con su inconfundible voz grandes canciones como, ‘Lovers in the wind’, ‘Hide in your shell’, ‘Sister Moonshine’, canciones de su último trabajo en solitario ‘Open the door’ como ‘Along came Mary’ o ‘The more I look’, o su gran éxito ‘The logical song’, con la que el británico se despidió momentáneamente para tomarse un merecido descanso.
Tras la pausa continuó con ‘The meaning’, ‘Breakfast in America’, la electrónica ‘Child of vision’ o ‘Lord is it mine’. Hodgson se dirigió a un entregado público en varias ocasiones tanto para agradecer su entusiasmo, como para manifestar cuanto le gustaba la ciudad de Almería, pese a ser su primera visita. “¿Habéis sentido alguna vez mientras estabais en el campo o en la montaña, mirando las estrellas durante la noche, que formabais parte de todo ese universo?. Es un sentimiento maravilloso. Yo lo sentí en un par de ocasiones, y en una tenía mi guitarra y compuse esta canción”. Este fue el particular modo de introducir la acústica ‘Even in the quietest moments’. En la recta final de la actuación se vivieron los momentos más enérgicos, casi apoteósicos, con el público en pie, y acompañando con sus vítores y palmas a modo de instrumento de percusión canciones como ‘Dreamer’, ‘It´s raining again’, o los bises ‘School’ y ‘Give a little bit’. “Gracias, people from Almería” , fueron las palabras con las que se despidió el músico británico, no sin antes acercarse a saludar a los seguidores de las primeras filas. |
