A muy pocas semanas de su llegada a Lima, el talentoso músico inglés y ex vocalista de la mítica banda Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, aseguró que realizará un inolvidable concierto el 18 de febrero en la Explanada del Estadio Monumental. Además, el cantante no descarta volver a reunir a su ex agrupación en un futuro cercano pues, según confesó, la considera como su casa.
El fundador y compositor de una de las más grandes bandas de rock progresivo de todos los tiempos expresó que entre sus canciones favoritas de Supertramp se encuentran "Breakfast in America" y una de las preferidas de sus seguidores, "The logical song". Ambos clásicos junto a otros éxitos de su ex banda formarán parte del repertorio que brindará en el show en Lima.
PREGUNTA: Después de 40 años de trayectoria musical, ¿qué lo motiva a venir nuevamente a Perú?
ROGER: Siempre quise regresar al Perú desde la última vez que fui, en 1998. Verdaderamente añoro mucho el calor de su gente. La bienvenida que me dieron esa vez nunca lo podré olvidar y definitivamente tampoco sus paisajes, creo que el Perú tiene una naturaleza fabulosa.
PREGUNTA: ¿Conoce o ha oído música peruana ya sea el folclore o la música afro peruana? ¿Gusta de la música de algún cantante peruano en particular?
ROGER: No he tenido el privilegio de oír música peruana ni de conocer a alguno de sus exponentes. Sin embargo, sé que todo lo que el Perú posee es mágico y estoy seguro de que su música lo es también.
PREGUNTA: ¿Fusionaría la magia de los instrumentos de vientos de la música andino-peruana con su música?
ROGER: Por supuesto, no lo pensaría dos veces. Los instrumentos de viento son uno de mis favoritos, creo que nutre la espiritualidad de cualquier ser humano.
PREGUNTA: Luego de liderar por un tiempo la banda y haber vendido más de 60 millones de discos, ¿extraña la época dorada de Roger Hodgson en Supertramp?
ROGER: Yo creo que aún sigo viviendo mi época dorada, mi música se sigue oyendo y ha vuelto a ocupar lugares importantes hoy en día como "Breakfast in America". Creo que desde que dejé el grupo en 1983 se cerró un ciclo para mi música y ahora hay otro abierto. Sentí en aquel tiempo que debía dedicarle más tiempo a mi vida familiar, ya que tenía dos hijos de quienes ocuparme. Actualmente vivo en California.
PREGUNTA: ¿Volvería a cantar en Supertramp? ¿Hay posibilidades de un reencuentro?
ROGER: No descarto esa posibilidad, pues Supertramp fue mi casa por muchos años y aún la considero como tal, pero por ahora no hay nada programado.

A few weeks before his arrival in Lima, talented English musician and former singer of mythical band Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, assured that he'll play an unforgettable concert on February 18th in the Terrace of Monumental Stadium. Furthermore, the singer doesn't rule out to get his former band together in the near future because, as he admitted, he sees it as his own home.
Founder and songwriter of one of the greatest progressive rock bands ever, he said that two of his favourite songs from Supertramp are "Breakfast in America" and one of the most loved songs by his fans, "The logical song." Both classics, and many other hits from his former band, will be part of the set list during his show in Lima.
QUESTION: After 40 years in the music world, what made you play in Peru again?
ROGER: I always wanted to go back to Peru since my last visit in 1998. I truly miss the warmth of Peruvian people. I'll never forget how they welcomed me then, and I'll never forget Peruvian landscapes. I think Peru has a fabulous nature.
QUESTION: Do you know Peruvian music, whether it is Peruvian folklore or Afro-Peruvian music? Do you like any Peruvian musician?
ROGER: No, I didn't have the privilege to listen to Peruvian music. But I know that everything in Peru is magic, so I'm sure of Peruvian music is magic too.
QUESTION: Would you merge the magic of Andean-Peruvian wind instruments with your own music?
ROGER: Yes, of course. Wind instruments are among my favourite ones, because I think they feed the spirit of every human being.
QUESTION: After leading the band and selling over 60 millions of discs, do you miss your golden era in Supertramp?
ROGER: My golden times leading Supertramp were an incredible adventure which I will cherish, but I feel there are different seasons in one's life and at that time in 1983 I felt like that season had completed itself and there was another one pulling at my heart very strongly was 2 small children and a family that have come to me. and I realized the priority for the next phase of my life needed to be my family. Now I live in California.
QUESTION: Would you sing with Supertramp again? Are there any chances for a reunion?
ROGER: I don't rule out that possibility, because Supertramp was my home for many years. But at this moment there is nothing scheduled about it. I've been very happy touring the world and playing my songs. The people tell me all the time they love hearing the original voice, and since I wrote most of the hits we recorded with Supertramp, the fans hear the songs they want to hear in my shows. |
