Aunque desde 1984 no forma parte de Supertramp, el músico británico Roger Hodgson continúa llevando los éxitos de la legendaria banda por los escenarios internacionales.
Las historias en formato de rock progresivo de esta recordada agrupación cautivaron por las letras que muchos definen como filosóficas. Uno de sus grandes éxitos, "Take the long way home", por ejemplo, tiene frases como: "Pero hay veces que te sientes parte del paisaje". Ese y temas como "Dreamer", "Give a little bit¹, "Breakfast in America", "Fool's overture" o "The logical song" se convirtieron himnos para los jóvenes de los 70 y 80 que hoy los escucharán en vivo en la voz de Hodgson. El músico británico le dijo a EL COMERCIO, en una conversación telefónica, que el repertorio preparado para su show de esta noche, en el Agora de la Casa de la Cultura, tiene todos los éxitos de Supertramp que él compuso.
Hodgson afirma que será un espectáculo bien balanceado. "Tengo una banda increíble conmigo, que conseguí especialmente para este tour por Sudamérica, y creo que la gente va a salir muy complacida con el espectáculo".
Aunque muchos añoran especialmente sus temas de los años dorados de Supertramp, Roger Hodgson no es un músico que se quede quieto. Por eso, en sus archivos personales existen al menos sesenta nuevas canciones que todavía no ha grabado.
Y si de un estilo se trata, para él es difícil definir. "Mis canciones no tienen un estilo específico, aunque las personas que conocen Supertramp podrían decir que escuchan algo parecido a lo que yo tocaba antes".
El músico estará en Sudamérica por dos semanas. Dará conciertos en cinco países entre los que se incluye Chile, donde estará entre los artistas elegidos para el Festival de Viña del Mar de este año. Europa será su siguiente parada.

He is not with Supertramp since 1984, but British musician Roger Hodgson still carries the hits from that legendary band all around the world.
The stories this missed group told through its progressive rock format captivated many people thanks to their philosophical lyrics. One of their greatest hits, "Take the long way home", has words like "But there are times that you feel you¹re part of the scenery".
That song and other hits like "Dreamer", "Give a little bit", "Breakfast in America", "Fool's overture" or "The logical song" became some anthems for young people from 70s and 80s, and tonight they'll listen to all those classics in the voice of Hodgson.
British musician spoke to EL COMERCIO via phone and said that the set list he'll play tonight at Agora contains all the Supertramp classics he wrote. Hodgson states that it will be a well balanced show: "I have an incredible band. I recruited them for this South American tour, and I think the audience will be very pleased with the concert".
Though many people miss his songs from Supertramp golden years, Roger Hodgson is still writing. He has over sixty new unreleased pieces. But he can't talk about musical styles: ³"My songs don't have a style, though people who know Supertramp could say they are similar to what I played then".
Hodgson will be in South America for two weeks. He will play in five countries, including Chile, where he is one of the guest artists who'll perform in Viña del Mar Festival. Europe will be his next stop. |
