El legendario Roger Hodgson regala lo mejor de Supertramp en el Festival de Cap Roig

La legendaria voz de la banda británica de rock Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, ha transportado este lunes por la noche a los 70's y 80's al público del Festival Jardines de Cap Roig, en Calella de Palafrugell (Baix Empordà). El que fue cantante y compositor de grandes éxitos del grupo no ha decepcionado a los nostálgicos y les ha ofrecido los sonidos míticos de 'Give a little bit', 'The Logical Song' o 'Breakfast in America', así como también piezas de su carrera en solitario. Esta es la segunda vez que Hodgson visita Catalunya en menos de un mes, puesto que el 12 de julio actuó con su banda en el festival ETC de Tarragona.
"Es fantástico que hoy no llueva". Con este guiño Hodgson se ha dirigido a un público entregado que, después de que el verano pasado se quedara con la pena de no poderle escuchar puesto que la lluvia obligó a cancelar su actuación, hoy ha podido disfrutar de unos sonidos que ya forman parte del himno de una generación. Y es que algunas de las canciones que compuso Hodgson para la banda británica han superado el paso del tiempo y continúan emocionando por todas partes.
Está muy vivo, pues, el recuerdo de una época dorada en que con el liderazgo del cantautor británico, Supertramp vendió más de 50 millones de discos. Y 35 años después de componer 'Give a Little bit', Hodgson acaba de ser galardonado por esta canción.
En la actuación de hoy Hodgson ya se ha metido al público en el bolsillo desde el primer momento, comenzando el concierto con 'Take the long way home' y 'School'. Lo han seguido otros temas como 'In Jeopardy', 'Lady', 'Easy does it', 'Breakfast in America', 'London', 'Soapbox Opera', la ovacionada 'The Logical Song', una versión de la canción de The Beatles 'Across the universe', 'Fool's Overture' o la innegociable 'Give a little bit'. En este concierto, que ha durado unas dos horas, el cantautor británico ha estado acompañado de Aaron Mac Donald, Bryan Head, Ian Stewart y Kevin Adamson, y le han seguido unas 1.700 personas que llenaban las gradas de Cap Roig -un 87% del aforo total.
Con 61 años, este cantautor nacido en Portsmouth, al sur de Inglaterra, dio vida a Supertramp desde su formación, desde el 1969, hasta el 1983, año en qué dejó el grupo para empezar su carrera en solitario. Creó la banda con el también cantante Rick Davies, pero precisamente el distanciamiento entre los proyectos musicales de ambos se entrevé como una de las causas de la ruptura de Supertramp. Aunque por el camino editaron álbumes para la historia, como 'Crisis? What crisis?' o 'Breakfast in America'. Los frutos de su intermitente carrera en solitario son 'In the Eye of the Storm' (1984), 'Hai Hai' (1987), 'Rites of Passage' (1997), y 'Open the Door' (2000).
Las próximas citas de Cap Roig son jueves con el Dúo Dinámico; viernes y sábado con Julio Iglesias, y el próximo lunes con Antònia Font. Cerrará el festival Tom Jones con actuaciones el 20 y 21 de agosto.

The legendary voice of British rock band Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, transported last night the audience at Jardines de Cap Roig in Calella de Palafrugell to the 70s and 80s.
Who was the singer and composer of the band’s greatest hits didn’t disappoint the nostalgic people and offered them the mhytical sound of 'Give a little bit', 'The logical song' or 'Breakfast in America', as well as some pieces from his solo career. This is the second time Hodgson visits Catalonia in a month, since on July 12th he played with his band in Tarragona.
“It’s not raining and that’s great”, said Hodgson to a devoted audience who last summer unluckily were not able to see him playing because the rain forced to cancel his show. But now they have enjoyed the sounds which are the anthem of a generation.
Some of the songs Hodgson wrote for the British group have stood the test of time and keep touching the people everywhere. So the memories of a golden era when Supertramp sold over 50 millions albums leaded by this British songwriter are very alive. And 35 years after writing ‘Give a little bit’, Hodgson has received an award for that song.
During his performance Hodgson got the audience eating out of his hand from the start, beginning the show with 'Take the long way home' and 'School'. Then he played songs like 'In jeopardy', 'Lady', 'Easy does it', 'Breakfast in America', 'London', 'A soapbox opera', the acclaimed 'The logical song', a cover of The Beatles’ 'Across the universe', 'Fool's overture' or the inevitable 'Give a little bit'.
The show lasted about two hours and the British songwriter was accompanied by Aaron MacDonald, Bryan Head, Ian Stewart and Kevin Adamson. They played before 1,700 people who packed the stands of Cap Roig, which means around 87 percent its capacity.
This 61 years old songwriter was born in Portsmouth, at the south of England, and kept Supertramp alive between 1969 and 1983, when he left the band to pursue his solo career. He founded the group with the singer Rick Davies, but their musical projects grew apart and that was one reason for the break-up of Supertramp.
Before that, they recorded historic albums like 'Crisis? What crisis?' or 'Breakfast in America'. During his intermittent solo career, Hodgson has released 'In the eye of the storm' (1984), 'Hai Hai' (1987), 'Rites of passage' (1997) and 'Open the door' (2000).
