ROGER HODGSON SINGER-SONGWRITER FORMERLY OF SUPERTRAMP RETURNS TO THE U.S.
WITH BREAKFAST IN AMERICA TOUR
Legendary singer and composer
brings shows stateside beginning August 11
in Costa Mesa, California, and gets set to launch Classics Live 2 CD.
LOS ANGELES, CA,
July 30, 2013—Following on the heels of sellout shows in Australia,
the U.K., and Europe, Roger Hodgson formerly of Supertramp will return to the
U.S. with his
Breakfast in America Tour. A series of select dates start August
11 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, and will
include at least eight other stops on both coasts.
Concurrent with
the tour, Hodgson has announced the forthcoming release of a new CD,
Classics Live 2. The disc joins Classics Live 1 in the
Hodgson catalog, which is available through his
Store
and
iTunes.
Hodgson helped
propel Supertramp to international superstardom in the 70’s with
album sales of well over 60 million, including 1979’s stellar
blockbuster, Breakfast
in America, which alone sold upwards of 20 million
copies. Timeless in nature, his songs have played on the radio
continuously for more than thirty-five years. Now, in concert,
Hodgson reignites memories and emotions with a heart-stirring voice
that both critics and fans declare is sounding better than ever.
Uniting
generations, Hodgson transports baby boomers back to their youth
while giving younger concertgoers a taste of why his classic songs
have endured. With his repertoire also including fan favorites such
as “Child
of Vision,”
“Fool’s
Overture,”
“Hide
in Your Shell,” “Even
in the Quietest Moments,” and “School,”
audiences are once again experiencing the magic and spirit that
Hodgson created with Supertramp. Accompanied by a four-piece band,
Hodgson also performs favorites from his solo albums such as “Only
Because of You,” “Lovers
in the Wind,” and “In
Jeopardy.”
“The power of the music was indisputable with many of the audience
in tears of joy at the memories and emotions the songs evoked. It
was like seeing Supertramp back in their heyday.” Evening
Herald
“Frequently entertaining the audience with stories about the origins
of his songs, Hodgson connects deeply with the fans in a way few
stars of his stature do.”San
Diego Reader
“Remarkably,
the humble musical legend is back and his signature voice sounds
stronger than ever… to see and hear Roger Hodgson in concert today
is simply to experience a sort of musical homecoming.”
Rolling Stone
"This is the real
deal: a legendary music man, in brilliant form and shimmering
presence, supported by a tight, terrific band. When you can catch a
show, go. An evening with Roger Hodgson will raise your standards of
concert-going."

Rochester Jazz Fest 2013: Paloma Reviews Roger Hodgson
Tonight
I heard a different side of Roger Hodgson, the still
unmistakable voice of Supertramp, at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.
Hodgson didn’t talk much during his two hour, 22 song show, but when
he did, it was in reference to writing song lyrics from deep within
during times of personal challenges or struggles.
Hodgson was with a four-man band, and for “The Awakening,”
Hodgson sang with the bass player and the winds player, and their
well-blended voices offered a fresh insight into what the future may
sound like.
The harmonics of Supertramp was certainly one aspect of its playing
that I enjoyed, so when Hodgson said he’d like to record the song
someday, my vote would be yes.
Hodgson did not seem to disappoint the audience filling the
Eastman Theatre, several of whom (including me) carried original
albums with them. He opened with “The Long Way Home” and played many
favorites, including “Breakfast in America,” “The Logical Song,”
“Dreamer,” “It’s Raining Again,” and a dancing-in-the-aisles version
of “Give a Little Bit.”
As Eastman is generally my venue for covering the Rochester
Philharmonic Orchestra, I put up a big cheer when Hodgson said he
might like to come back to perform here with the RPO (perhaps for
“Fool’s Overture” or, better still, an orchestral version of “Death
and a Zoo?”). Last year, Sarah McLachlan performed with the RPO at
CMAC, so I can imagine a collaboration for them with Hodgson.

Reflection by Lee
Roger opened the night himself without any earlier performer. He
just walked on in behind a smile, sat down to his keyboard and
pumped out a jaw-dropping Take the Long Way Home. I am not ashamed
to say that during his next song School I wiped away a few tears.
God sakes, I had to pull myself together, I’m a man.
The classics continued. He spoke humbly and gave his time
generously between songs dedicating some to audience members for
reasons varying from long distance travellers, birthday and even
long-time fan support. He is the man I always expected him to be –
warm and honest.
A special mention needs to be made of the four piece band. They
are clearly great musicians with a wonderful understanding of the
nuances and timing of the songs performed. This was particularly
evident during the song Fool’s Overture performed after the interval
and near the end of the two hour plus concert. Amazing stuff.
I am not a particularly Christian man however on this night
heaven and earth rotated pretty close as Roger drew the breath of
angels to deliver an ethereal performance unequalled in all my born
days. Where does that voice come from?
I see now that in labeling the concert “Roger Hodgson and Special
Guests” we were in fact, the special guests. Thank you Roger.
Lee
p.s. Standing at the stage front as the concert finished Roger
reached down as he was leaving and shook my hand – very cool!
Roger Hodgson gives more than a little bit. To the world, Roger Hodgson is one of the most gifted composers, songwriters, and lyricists of our time.
To the foundation, he’s someone who knows the difference one person or one organization can make when you just “give a little bit.” In 2012, Hodgson bestowed the rights to his song aptly named “Give a Little Bit” to Cleaning For A Reason, the foundation that makes a difference for women with cancer through free house cleanings.

Appreciation Award presentation:
In Hodgson’s own words, “It’s just one of those songs that has a profound yet beautiful and simple message–’give a little bit’ and show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a better place.”
According to the singer’s manager Linda Tyler, “Roger Hodgson, cofounder of Supertramp, is the original singer/songwriter of Give a Little Bit, The Logical Song, Breakfast in America, Dreamer, Take the Long Way Home, School, It’s Raining Again, Fool’s Overture, and many more. Many people do not realize that although Roger and Supertramp’s other cofounder shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately with each singing their own respective songs.”
Regarding Hodgson’s current projects, Tyler replied, “You can see Roger live in concert. He is currently on his world tour and selling out shows all over the globe in addition to receiving fantastic review from media and fans alike. Be sure to also visit Roger’s YouTube channel at http:www.youtube.com/MrRogerHodgson.”
I was deeply touched
by the outpouring of messages that I received for my
birthday, especially the wonderful video that was shown on
my
Facebook page.
I feel like the luckiest man alive; having
such wonderful fans and friends around the world. My band
and I are excited for the beginning of our 2013 tour and I
look forward to seeing and playing for many of you in the
coming months!
Much love,
Roger

Roger Hodgson brings
Supertramp sound to Clearwater
By SEAN DALY
Times Pop Music Critic
There was nothing "logical" about Supertramp, of course. Even
the band's chief braintrust, Roger Hodgson, will tell you that.
Forty-four years after the British pop/rock/prog/jazz/klezmer/you-name-it
band started confounding fans and this music critic alike, the
group remains a head-scratcher to categorize, a merger of found
sounds, kazoo zings and incongruous (but still pretty awesome)
sax solos.
Were the boys trying to be difficult? Was the chaos
planned?
"It was not by design, I can tell you that," laughs Hodgson,
the 63-year-old composer of The Logical Song, Take the
Long Way Home and Give a Little Bit. "Even though
I've been influenced by many musicians over the years, I never
tried to make music to fit into any category. When I lose myself
in the sound, when I get my mind out of the way, that's when the
music happens, that's when inspiration happens."
Hodgson bolted Supertramp 30 years ago; the creative, often
incendiary spark with co-founder Rick Davies that drove the band
to success also led to its fracture. But Hodgson adores his cuts
with the old crew, and he'll play many of them — while robustly
backed by a rock symphony — at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater on
Friday. About the live solo show, he says rather confidently:
"It will be a highlight in people's concertgoing lives."
Hodgson is back on a worldwide tour that is selling out
everywhere and his signature voice is stronger than ever. For
the first time in the United States, Hodgson will perform with a
rock symphony orchestra when he performs at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

out concert there was the set for Roger’s #1 Multi-Platinum
live DVD: Take The
Long Way Home – Live In Montreal. Hodgson’s unique relationship with Montreal audiences that
has lasted for close to 40 years amazes the artist. Hodgson
comments, “I'm very pleased to be
adding a second show at Place de Arts and that the love
affair and long history I have with the people and the city
of Montreal is still so much alive. I'm very excited for
everyone to hear the band and the show I am bringing which I

Legendary Singer-Songwriter Roger Hodgson “Gives A
Little Bit”
at Super Bowl Before Kicking Off 2013 World Tour
New Version of Classic Roger Hodgson Song
Provides Soundtrack for Coca-Cola Ad
NEW ORLEANS, LA, February 5, 2013—In the wake of Super Bowl XLVII, some will remember which commercials were the best as much as the game itself. With this year’s ads prompting emotions ranging from laughter to tears, prime among them was a 30-second spot for Coca-Cola utilizing the song “Give a Little Bit” as its soundtrack – a song written and composed by Roger Hodgson and originally released in 1977 by Supertramp, the iconic rock band he co-founded. This new recording is Hodgson's latest version of his classic hit, which is now available on iTunes. His latest release Classics Live can be found on iTunes as well, or at www.rogerhodgson.com.
The Coca-Cola “Security Cameras” Super Bowl ad, which combined the sounds of “Give a Little Bit” with images of people engaging in acts of generosity and goodwill as captured by security cameras around the world, was the most watched post-game commercial on the NFL’s own website, with views exceeding a quarter-million. The spot prompted Hodgson to comment, "The images in the ad go well with the meaning of my song. It's just one of those songs that has a profound yet beautiful and simple message – ‘give a little bit’ and show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a better place.”
“Give a Little Bit” has been used to help raise support for many charities worldwide and remains a favorite of millions of Hodgson fans around the globe. It has become a unifying anthem that brings out the best in people whether it’s the 60,000 strong Wembley Stadium audience that rose to its feet to sing along with Hodgson at the Princess Diana tribute concert in 2007, or any of his other concerts that he gives around the world today – the song reminds us of the better part of ourselves and inspires us to express it.
A live version of “Give a Little Bit” is available on Roger's latest CD release, Classics Live - a spectacular collection of live performances from acoustic, band, and orchestra shows recorded on his 2010 world tour. Fans the world over have also been thrilled with the CD’s new versions of unforgettable hits such as “Take the Long Way Home,” “Give a Little Bit,” “Hide in Your Shell,” “Breakfast in America,” “Only Because of You," “Lord is it Mine,” “The Logical Song,” “School,” “Dreamer,” “Two of Us,” and “It's Raining Again.” Hodgson will launch the latest leg of his ongoing Breakfast in America Tour on March 22 in Clearwater, Florida – with shows for 2013 spanning the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and Europe.
Rolling Stone noted: “Remarkably, the humble musical legend is back and his signature voice sounds stronger than ever… to see and hear Roger Hodgson in concert today is simply to experience a sort of musical homecoming.”
Added the Huffington Post: “This is the real deal: a legendary music man in brilliant form and shimmering presence.”

Announces Changes to ‘Breakfast in America’ Tour Schedule Due to Hurricane Sandy
Hodgson Joins Efforts to ‘Give a Little Bit’ to Red Cross
Prompted by the damaging impact of Hurricane Sandy to the East Coast, legendary songwriter and vocalist ROGER HODGSON of the group Supertramp, announced several changes to the North American leg of his popular “Breakfast in America” tour, which resumes tomorrow, including fundraising for the Red Cross.
"We have been closely following the effects and recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy and our sympathy goes out to all of those whose lives have been affected.” Roger Hodgson commented. “Knowing the challenges that many people are currently facing, we are working with each promoter to reschedule shows and to find ways to 'give a little bit' to help the local communities.”
Hodgson’s song, “Give a Little Bit” was used this week during ABC TV’s “Day of Giving” telethon encouraging all of us to reach out to the victims of Hurricane Sandy by giving whatever we can to the Red Cross. Click here for the lyrics.

The man who wrote and sang “Give a Little Bit” is feeling more than a little generous these days.
Roger Hodgson, whose distinctive tenor voice and introspective lyrics were signatures of the band Supertramp, has returned to performing after a hiatus of some 20 years. And, in his own words, he’s “having the time of (his) life.”
“It’s better now than it ever was,” says Hodgson. “I’m older and wiser. I feel I have more to give the audience. I don’t think I’ve ever sounded better, and I have to say that my band is the best band I’ve ever put together.”
Hodgson, who is playing two dates in New Jersey, finds himself in an odd position, however. The songs he did with Supertramp in the 1970s and early 1980s – such as “The Logical Song,” “Take the Long Way Home,” and “Dreamer” – are still staples of radio.
But Hodgson’s own name is less well known than that of Supertramp. “I’m not a known quantity to a lot of people,” he says. “People have been hearing these songs for years, but it’s taken me a while to establish my own name.”
His recording career actually dates to 1969, when he played guitar on the song “Duck Pond” by a group called People Like Us. At the time, he was fresh out of boarding school in Buckinghamshire.
Less than a year later, he was tapped to sing lead on “Mr. Boyd,” a song by a pop band called Argosy. The members of that impromptu group included the piano player Reginald Dwight, who would later change his name to Elton John.
“Yes, Reggie did a very nice job on that song,” says Hodgson with a laugh. More seriously, he adds, “I was totally tongue-tied. I was 19 and working with these red-hot musicians. It was an amazing baptism.”
Supertramp at Ridgefield Playhouse Benefit ~ EXCERPT
Erik Ofgang
Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Roger Hodgson, the voice of Supertramp,
will perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, Nov. 3.
In the 1970s, Roger Hodgson wrote the song "Give A Little Bit," with his band Supertramp. He said the song was his ode to love and helping others.
"It was really my anthem championing love, championing caring and giving," said Hodgson, who was the lead singer, chief songwriter and pianist for Supertramp.
"It was a message that I really believed. At a certain point I realized that one of the secrets in life is giving. I realized that actually I get more joy and fulfillment from giving than I do in just taking," he said.
Hodgson will be giving Supertramp fans a chance to hear all the group's biggest hits when he performs at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. The concert is a fundraising gala for the playhouse, which is a nonprofit organization. There's a pre-show cocktail party for all ticket holders from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. It includes hors d'oeuvres and an open bar.
During the 1970s, Supertramp charted such mega hits as "It's Raining Again," "Fools Overture, "Give A Little Bit, "Dreamer," "Take the Long Way Home" and "The Logical Song." Hodgson wrote these songs and will perform them and others with his band at this concert.
In a recent phone interview Hodgson was sincere, thoughtful and full of genuine kindness as he discussed his career and upcoming show.

Changes to “Breakfast in America” Tour Schedule Due to Hurricane Sandy
Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Because of the damaging impact of Hurricane Sandy, we are making some changes to the US East Coast leg of our “Breakfast in America” tour.
From Roger: "We have been closely following the path of Hurricane Sandy and witnessing how the flooding, high winds, downed trees and power outages have been disrupting the lives of millions of people. Our sympathy goes out to all those whose lives have been affected. For the safety of all those traveling to my concerts, we are shifting the dates for the first three shows.”
Our East Coast tour will now begin in Boston (Lynn, MA) with the show on its original date, Sunday, Nov 4th. The shows for Nov 1st in Philadelphia (Glenside, PA), Nov 2nd in Long Island (Westbury, NY), and Nov 3rd in Ridgefield, CT will be rescheduled for either another day in November or the beginning of next year.
So, the shows will go on! Roger is very much looking forward to playing for you soon. Hold on to your ticket and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we finalize new dates. All other shows will proceed as planned at this time – see the full tour schedule or the Facebook events page.

THE LEGENDARY SINGER-SONGWRITER FORMERLY OF SUPERTRAMP
**BRINGING HIS FULL BAND TO AUSTRALIA FOR THE FIRST TIME**
Roger Hodgson has been recognized as one of the most gifted composers, songwriters, and lyricists of our time. As the co-founder and legendary voice of Supertramp, he gave us the timeless classics such as “Give a little bit,” “The Logical Song,” “School,” “Dreamer,” “Take the Long Way Home,” “Breakfast In America,” “Child of Vision,” “Fool’s Overture,” and so many others that have become the soundtrack of our lives. Many people don’t realize that although Roger and Supertramp’s other co-founder shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately with each singing their own respective songs.
Hodgson co-founded Supertramp in 1969. During the 14 years that he led the band prior do his departure, Supertramp became a worldwide phenomenon with sales of over 60 million albums. Although Roger departed the band in 1983 and moved away from the Los Angeles music scene to Northern California to raise his children and be close to nature, he is still regarded by many as Supertramp’s spiritual and creative force.
His songs have stood the test of time and are more relevant today, if not more so, than when they were released. Hodgson recently received the honour of two awards from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) for “Give a Little Bit” and “Breakfast in America” being in the top played songs in their repertory.
Hodgson is currently on his world tour and selling out shows around the globe, in addition to receiving fantastic reviews from media and fans alike. Don’t miss this one-off opportunity
The song titles alone bring back memories: "Dreamer," "Take the Long Way Home," "Give a Little Bit", "Breakfast in America," "The Logical Song." But fan testimony — particularly on the subject of lyrics — has convinced singer-songwriter Roger Hodgson, formerly of '70s rockers Supertramp, that his is no nostalgia act.
"The songs I'm playing were written 30-plus years ago, but they don't sound old," Hodgson says. "They still sound fresh. They're still very relevant — some are more relevant today than when they were written. 'Give a Little Bit,' I think, has a message that is more needed today than when I wrote it. 'Please tell me who I am' — there are a lot of confused people in world. It's a tough time to be alive right now. How do you find true happiness?
"It never ceases to amaze me, really, what different songs have meant to people. I hear everything from 'They saved my life during my teen years' to 'We fell in love to the songs.' Or they used the songs at their weddings. The thing that amazes me is the depth of connection people have with these songs."
Roger Hodgson said it can be frustrating to market his shows. People don't know that he's the singer and songwriter behind such Supertramp hits as "The Logical Song," "Dreamer," "Take the Long Way Home" and "Give a Little Bit."
The Great Britain native is hoping that by naming his tour after "Breakfast in America," Supertramp's mega-selling 1979 album, fans will catch on. He performs Saturday at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto as part of a 34-city U.S. tour.
"This is kind of like the best of Supertramp in a way," he said in a recent phone interview. "People are being knocked out with this show."
Hodgson, 62, will perform with a four-piece band of players in their 30s and 40s. "I wanted young, hungry, passionate musicians," he said. "The band is a great band. I'm singing the songs better than I've sung them. The vocal harmonies are going to knock people sideways, they're so beautiful."
Supertramp was co-founded England in 1970 by Hodgson and Rick Davies. The group's first big hit came in 1974 with Hodgson's "Dreamer." The two wrote separately, but like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, they maintained a joint writing credit during their collaboration.
During the next nine years, the group released four studioalbums, achieving international success with "Breakfast in America," which sold 20 million albums. But in 1983, Hodgson decided to walk away from it all so he could live a simpler life with his family in accordance with his spiritual values.

Special Announcement of March and April 2013 Tour
One of the planet’s finest
singers and songwriters played with only one other
accompanist three years ago and sold-out his tour of
Australia. This time the writer and singer of
Supertramp’s anthems brings his full band Down Under
–
FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME !!
Roger
returns to Australia for a highly anticipated exclusive
tour of seven shows in March and April 2013! Australians
have been asking for Roger’s return, and we have been
listening! You have Roger back and this time, with his
full band! Roger says, “I am very happy to be returning
to Australia – I felt so welcomed when I was there in
2010. It was a great tour and I am really looking
forward to sharing my music with all of you again.”
Universally recognized as one of the most gifted
composers and songwriters to have ever put pen to paper,
Hodgson helped define a generation of progressive rock.
Founding Supertramp in 1969, Hodgson’s dulcet tones and
beautifully crafted lyrics helped his former band sell
in excess of 60 million albums, transforming them into a
worldwide phenomenon. Although he departed the band in
1983, for many he is still regarded as the spiritual and
creative force behind Supertramp.
See
what the press had to say when Roger last toured
Australia in April 2010:
“Roger
Hodgson is one of the contemporary pop worlds great
talents and it’s well worth making the effort to see his
show, pay homage and be thoroughly entertained by a
quality individual. His performance was exemplary.
Vocally he seems actually stronger and more assured than
when he was a younger man making multi million selling
albums. His guitar playing and keyboard work was
superb.”
~ Hey Hey My My
“If you were ever a fan
of Supertramp then attending a Roger Hodgson concert
these days is as good as it gets and it gets good. As
the principal songwriter of Supertramp and lead singer
of the songs he wrote, Hodgson solo sounds exactly like
Supertramp which is a good thing. The Roger Hodgson
setlist reads like a history of music.”
~ Undercover
From a
fan~
ROGER HODGSON is rock royalty in the truest sense. After
seeing Roger here in Australia in 2010 and listening to
his voice sing the songs that he has written is quite an
amazing experience. Rogers voice has actually improved
over the years and now playing with a full band and has
himself and other members sounding like Supertramp, more
so then what Supertramp sounds like. Attending the shows
that Roger puts together is more like a life experience
then just a simple concert, the musical experience will
stick with me forever. I implore people to try and see
Roger perform with his band, you wont be disappointed. I
am going to see Roger perform 5 shows in Australia over
9 days in 2013, and to have Roger come back here to
Australia after just 3 years simply shows the talent
that he poses, and how privileged we are to have him
back here, even after writing such hits nearly 40yrs
ago, Breakfast In America, Logical Song, Take The Long
Way Home, Dreamer, Give A Little Bit, etc etc and still
hearing them currently on radio today shows how strong
Rogers song writing skills are and the musical talent he
oozes. Rogers all round music credentials is a class
above most musicians his songs simply say it all for
him, i implore people to try and see Roger perform his
magic sound on stage, you wont ever forget it. - RICK
Peter from Bluesfest welcomes back Roger Hodgson -
The Legendary voice of Supertramp for the 2nd
time. “ This will be an absolute highlight. If you
missed Roger in 2010, don’t do it again. His songs “Give
a Little Bit” and “Lord Is It Mine” continue to give me
goose-bumps after all these years. There are just too
many hits to name them all, and Roger’s voice is just as
it was all those years ago.”

Returns for ‘Breakfast in America’ this Fall
First Major U.S. Tour in 30
Years Hits East, West Coasts Amid Sold-Out European Dates and Critical Acclaim
Fresh on the heels of his current sold-out European tour and additional sold-out performances earlier this year in the U.S. and South America, legendary songwriter and vocalist Roger Hodgson, co-founder and original singer-songwriter from Supertramp, continues the U.S. leg of his popular “Breakfast in America” tour this fall amid tremendous critical acclaim.
No longer the young shy virtuoso, he is now a charismatic and full hearted performer, his signature voice sounding better than ever. As Rolling Stone noted following a performance earlier this year: “Remarkably, the humble musical legend is back and his signature voice sounds stronger than ever… To see and hear Roger Hodgson in concert today is not simply to experience a sort of musical homecoming, it is also the only real way to hear some of the most beloved songs ever sung as they were meant to be sung by the man who first brought them to life.” Added the Huffington Post: “This is the real deal: a legendary music man, in brilliant form and shimmering presence, supported by a tight, terrific band.”
Universally hailed as one of the most gifted composers and lyricists of our times, Roger Hodgson helped define a generation of progressive rock, and wrote and sang Supertramp’s globally successful and enduring anthems – timeless songs that helped his former band sell well over 60 million albums to date. His unmistakable voice also propels Supertramp fan favorites he created such as “Hide in Your Shell,” “Child of Vision,” “Even in the Quietest Moments,” “Don't Leave Me Now,” and “Lord is it Mine.”Hodgson delivers all of those songs, as well as solo compositions such as “Only Because of You,” “In Jeopardy,” “Lovers in the Wind,” and “Along Came Mary” from his five solo album releases, on his world tour.
Uniting generations at his concerts, Hodgson and his four-piece band transport baby boomers back to their youth and give younger generations a taste of why his heartfelt songs have endured. Breakfast in America had sales of over 20 million copies and hit the #1 spot on album charts worldwide. Audiences are once again experiencing the magic and spirit that Hodgson created with Supertramp.
Hodgson closes his concerts with the crowd singing along to “Give a Little Bit,” a song heard in a recent video that went viral with over six million views. Hodgson's timeless composition has a universal message that is as relevant today as when he wrote it over 40 years ago. The newest version, “Give a Little Bit with Children’s Choir,” was just released as a single on iTunes. Hodgson’s latest CD, “Classics Live,” is available through iTunes or from
www.Rogerhodgson.com
Hodgson co-founded Supertramp in 1969 and for many fans was the heart and creative force behind the band for the 14 years prior to his departure. Roger’s passion for his music and his art shines through in the magic and intimacy that is felt when he performs his songs in concert.
“Success in music to me is when I look out and I see a member of the audience crying or having ecstatic joy in their heart,” says Hodgson, who was awarded the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture at a sold-out Paris concert earlier this year. “To me, how much I have shared my heart and been able to touch someone else in a positive way is the measure of success as an artist.” The San Diego Readerremarked on Roger, “Frequently entertaining the audience with stories about the origins of his songs, Hodgson connects deeply with the fans in a way few stars of his stature do.”

EXCERPTS:
When I was young it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical…
Let me set the scene...
He’s taking no chances here, he skips straight to track 2 carefully guiding the needle to find it’s groove in the empty space between tracks, then…boom…the opening sequence of this amazing track kicks in and Roger Hodgson’s voice fills the room, piercing our senses with this joyful, bittersweet lament about the passage from childhood wonder and imagining, to adult conformity and servitude. And there was us, dressed in the uniform fashion of the time, on the cusp of becoming these sterile adolescents suddenly awakened from our hypnotic existence by two of the most unlikely heroes, Clarkey and Supertramp.
Watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical…
Although written sometime before appearing on the 1979 Grammy award-winning Breakfast in America, The Logical Song itself provides a thoughtful backdrop to the world we live in today and, perhaps, has even greater relevance now than it did then, particularly for those Enterprises who are out of touch with the new digital realities and behaviors of the growing number of Illogicals ...
In the song, Roger Hodgson recalls being sent to school as a kid and effectively being conditioned to conform to a world that seemed alien to his natural perceptions, a world that scorned those who ‘thought differently’, leading him to question the very nature of his (our) existence. Although the sentiment of a command and control world remains relevant today, the biggest change since then has been the democratization of information via the internet coupled with the adoption of social and mobile technologies leading to tech-savvy and better informed consumers (and citizens). It is actually incredibly ironic that over 30 years since Hodgson first sang those lyrics that it will likely be the ability to ‘think differently’ that will save many of those companies, the custodians of Machiavelli’s status quo, who still exhibit outmoded command and control techniques over customers (and employees).
Please tell me who I am…
The song finishes with a kind of rambling verse that curiously contains the lyric, “I’m feeling so illogical, d-d-d-digital” which makes me wonder now whether Hodgson was predicting a digital future? Perhaps not, but the answer to the question ‘Please tell me whom I am’ is one which, for Brands, will be embedded in their ability to evolve and remain relevant to an increasingly, illogical world.

Roger Hodgson co-founded the band Supertramp in 1969. He is considered
the “voice of Supertramp” serving as the lead singer and writer of nearly
all their hits throughout their peak of popularity in the seventies and
early eighties. He left Supertramp in 1983 and he has had a series of
critically acclaimed and successful solo albums. His appearance at Ravinia
was eagerly anticipated by all those in attendance.
When Hodgson walked on stage he was greeted with thunderous applause, a
clear indication that he was beloved by the crowd. He wore a great big grin
and seemed genuinely moved by warm reception. He sat behind the keyboard and
dove right into one of Supertramp’s big hits, Take the Long Way Home,
which the audience adored.
One of the problems I have noticed at Ravinia is the late arriving crowd.
After his first song, Hodgson noticed all the latecomers streaming in and he
said, “You’re late. You’re missing the best song!” He went on to say that
this was his first US band tour in many years and would be doing songs from
Supertramp as well as from some solo albums. He mentioned that it is “great
that my music has moved so many people.” He stated that, “Hopefully, one or
two songs will bring you to a special point in your lives.” In his generous
set of twenty songs he more than achieved that goal.
Roger Hodgson spent more than a dozen years fronting the popular British rock band Supertramp.
Millions of people around the world know his signature songs -- "Dreamer," "Take the Long Way Home," "Give a Little Bit" and "The Logical Song." Bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls and Gym Class Heroes have covered his tunes.
Yet in some ways, Hodgson still flies under the radar.
"Most people know my voice and know my songs, but my name is still unrecognized," he said in a recent phone interview.
Hodgson will perform at the Oregon Zoo on Friday as part of his "Breakfast in America" tour, named after Supertramp's top-selling album from 1979. He said the tour carries the name of the vintage album so that people will recognize him.
"This is what we came up with to connect the dots," he said. "We wanted people to know that 'this is the guy that sings this song.'"
Hodgson has toured sporadically since he left Supertramp in 1983 to move to the mountains of Northern California, where he wanted to live a quiet, spiritual life and raise his children.

Roger Hodgson plays at the Stadtpark - he plays like Supertramp did once and enthuses young and old
by Nadine Lischick
Translated by Elke Beckett
We don't have many musicians nowadays who have the ability to unite generations. Roger Hodgson, former singer and composer of British band Supertramp, who performs at the Stadtpark Hamburg is one of them. The 62-year-old has just finished the opening track "Take the Long Way Home" when he discovers a little boy in the front rows. "Do you know who I am?" he jokingly asks.
Of course he does. Hodgson has sold more than 60 million albums with Supertramp and up to today every little child knows pieces like "It's Raining Again" or "The Logical Song". That is why this boy in the front row is not the only young visitor who came with his parents tonight.
There's a man onstage who is a part of music history. Through an ad in the music magazine "Melody Maker" Hodgson got to know Rick Davies in 1969. Together they founded Supertramp. Whereas Davies was responsible for the more complex songs, the big hits were all penned by Hodgson. But in 1983 they had a quarrel and Hodgson left the band. One year later he published his first studio album. Since then he has been visiting Hamburg quite a couple of times but mostly only accompanied by sax player Aaron MacDonald.
But tonight at the Stadtpark, it's different. Hodgson, who makes you feel like 1970 with his long grey-brown hair and his hippie waistcoat has brought a four-piece band to support him on bass, drums, keyboards and saxophone. Together those five musicians come surprisingly close to the original Supertramp sound. Of course, Hodgson himself is very much responsible for that. His great voice has not been changed by the years and has this distinctive, youthful sound up till today. It's mostly Supertramp songs on the set for tonight, among them "School" and "Lady", but also pieces which Hodgson has not played in quite a while, for instance "C'est le bon". They are complemented by a couple of songs from Hodgson's numerous solo albums. "In Jeopardy", "Lovers in The Wind" and "Hide in Your Shell" are fitting in perfectly. Hodgson's band has brought along lots of toys and thus the pieces are nicely orchestrated, with glockenspiel and rattle, melodica and recorder.
But not only the songs are warming and pleasant but also the man himself. The Briton is probably one of the kindest musicians in this world. "It is so much fun to watch you", he says with a big grin.
"I love to see people who are dancing and having fun." His ex-bandmates did not appear to be so content when they played the O2 world Hamburg last year. They are mostly filling those stadiums due to Hodgson's songs. But even though tonight there's only a fraction of those crowds that Hodgson was used to be playing to together with Supertramp, he does not look as though he would prefer to be anywhere else in this very moment but at the Stadtpark Hamburg.
"The next song is for all you dreamers and especially for those little ones", that's what Hodgson says before playing "Dreamer" and he is once more addressing the young boy in the front row. "Are you having fun?" He does. For Hodgson is playing one song for eternity after the other during a varied and entertaining concert. Most of them are as light-hearted as "Breakfast in America", where Hodgson sings about his dream to perform in California one day, just as the Beatles did. But Hodgson has always been capable of writing profound lyrics as well. The ten-minute long, epic "Fool's Overture" which contains a quote from one of Winston Churchill's speeches, is highly political and deals with WWII.
And Hodgson and his band are always up for an experiment as well. During "Death and A Zoo" he hits a sampling pad and he actually acoustically transforms the Stadtpark into a zoo with his animal sounds. The song is from his solo album "Open the door" which was published in 2000. "Does anyone know the album?" asks Hodgson. "Yeeeeesssss!" yells some guy next to us. Supertramp was his first ever concert, he tells us later. In 1983, when he was 13, at the Volkspark stadium Hamburg. His parents took him along. That was "sheer happiness". And somehow he looks like he is experiencing the same today. His daughter is too small, but one day he is going to take her to a Roger Hodgson concert. Just like he was taken along back then and just like today the boy in the front row was taken along. This is something not many artists are achieving anymore these days.

Breakfast in America World Tour
South America
What a phenomenal tour of South America! Roger and his band performed a total of 16 shows in five countries. Audiences were fantastic! We received warm welcomes at every stop along the way. What a surprise in Buenos Aires when Roger arrived at the venue to be greeted by fans serenading him with Give a Little Bit – it brought a big smile to his face and it touched him deeply when the local Supertramp cover band strolled into his dressing room after the show in Belo Horizonte singing a tribute to him in gratitude for the legacy of music he created. We were all impacted in many ways by our month in South America and can’t wait to go back!

"My songs have always been very autobiographical." He says, "What I feel about life, love, what I see in the world. They're very personal, and that's really why they've stuck with people through the years. Maybe I've been able to express a lot of what maybe others have not been able to find a way to express in their lives."
Roger Hodgson's compelling and insightful interview with Radio New Zealand which took place on February 11, 2010. Listen to Roger, co-founder of Supertramp, talk about the timeless quality of his songs, the foundation for his lyrics, and his love for continuing to perform his classics for audiences around the world. Roger also discusses how his spiritual beliefs are intertwined into his songs and the details of why his songs he recorded with Supertramp have a dual writers credit. Although Roger and Supertramp's other co-founder, Rick Davies, shared writing credit, they each actually wrote and composed separately, with each singing their own respective songs.
Roger Hodgson of Supertramp revives the success in Sao Paulo
Excerpt from article:
It was one of the best shows I have ever seen, not only for personal meaning, but by the caprice and sophistication of artistic production. Roger Hodgson and his new band faithfully reproduced all the original arrangement of the classic albums. Friendly and very caring, he received gifts, chatted with the audience and sang more than twenty classics, and some tracks from his solo work. He was treated promptly at all times when asked the public stand up in some songs. And each song was a time travel. On this trip to Brazil, he made presentations in eight cities and Campinas (SP), and always crowded venues.
Roger has just received word that he is being honored by France with a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, one of the most prestigious decorations in all of France. Ordre des Arts et des Lettres was established in 1957 by the French Minister of Culture and its purpose is to recognize significant contributions to the arts.
Roger comments, "I am truly honored to be recognized by the French Minister of Culture. I have always held a special place in my heart for France and I am very grateful and humbled to be awarded this distinction." Let's offer our congratulations to Roger for this most honorable recognition.

ON BEHALF OF "YO CONCIERTOS,” THANKS, MAESTRO, FOR GIVING US A CONCERT THAT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO FORGET
Roger Hodgson proved he still maintains that voice which brought fame songs such as “Breakfast in America,” “It´s Raining Again” and “Dreamer.”
Roger Hodgson, the legendary leader of Supertramp, on Tuesday night, 10th April, at the Agora of the House of Culture was not only a singer but also a storyteller. Dressed in a vest, a white shirt and black pants, the English artist came into the stage which was decorated with four miniature ficus trees and a light angle shot that was reflected in them giving them a surreal green.
“Take the Long Way Home” was the opening song that go on with fifteen more, that Hodgson performed by playing the keyboard, guitar and piano, instruments he changed repeatedly. “Breakfast in America,” “School,” “Give a Little Bit,” “The Logical Song” and “Dreamer” were undoubtedly the most applauded songs.
With no choreographed proposals or exalted movements , "Mr. Supertramp" got about three thousand people of all ages chanting, whistling, shouting, and even kissing due to emotion.
At 23:10, Hodgson closed the show. However, by popular demand, he returned to the stage to please the euphoric masses with more hits, including “It’s Raining Again”and a farewell of “God Bless, I hope to see you soon.”

Roger Hodgson just marked another birthday this week, born March 21, 1950, in Portsmouth, England.
Hodgson is the legendary writer of classic hits like “Dreamer”, “Give A Little Bit”, “Take The Long Way Home”, “The Logical Song”, and more.
The former co-frontman and founding member, of progressive rock band Supertramp, Roger left the band in 1983 to pursue a simple, spiritual lifestyle in nature with his family, but he never stopped creating music.
“Logically” billed as “The Legendary Voice of Supertramp”, Roger is touring South America next month. He then hits Europe in June and finally makes his way to our neck of the woods on August 18th, where he’ll perform at The Borgata Music Box in Atlantic City.
At his official website, one description of the impact of Roger’s musical gift was described as his “trademark way of setting beautiful, introspective lyrics to upbeat melodies resonated and found its way into the hearts and minds of people from cultures around the world.”
To this day the Ivor Novello awarded “Logical Song” is actually one of the most quoted lyrics in schools, where clearly no one understands what he’s saying.

Roger Hodgson, the legendary voice of Supertramp, will embark on
his Breakfast in America Tour next month, kicking off with two sold out shows at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA.
Fans the world over have been thrilled with Hodgson‘s unforgettable songs such as “Breakfast in America,”
Universally recognized as one of the most gifted composers and songwriters to have ever put pen to paper, Hodgson helped define a generation of progressive rock. Founding Supertramp in 1969, Hodgson’s dulcet tones and beautifully crafted lyrics helped the band sell in excess of 60 million albums, transforming them into a worldwide phenomenon. Although he departed the band in 1983, he is still regarded as the spiritual and
creative force behind Supertramp.
For a taste of the live Hodgson experience, Take the Long Way Home – Live in Montreal, is available on DVD

"My songs are the expressions of my soul. I feel music is the language of the soul, a universal language that crosses all barriers. It can reach the heart without differences getting in the way. When we speak, we can often have walls between us. But for me, music can reach past those walls and touch our very hearts and souls." ~ Roger Hodgson

Fan Reviews
“When everyone rushed the stage I found myself surrounded by teenagers! Teenagers!!! They, along with people my age and older were at the stage - rockin' out, dancing, and singing the words to his songs! Roger Hodgson's
music spans all generations. What a great time.” ~ Jim
“Simply stunning. I couldn't believe how good this gig was. After attending hundreds of gigs over the years the magic had kinda worn off, but Saturday brought it all flooding back. Amazing and fantastic doesn't describe it.”
~ Alan
“I'm a regular gig goer, I try and see a "major “artist around once every
month or so and as a result of this have seen Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac etc,etc - you get the picture? Although I’ve enjoyed the majority of these gigs none has come remotely close to what I experienced in Liverpool last night. Roger you had a sold out Philharmonic hall in the palm of your hand - your songs are incredible, your voice is amazing and your band are brilliant. Despite your obvious modesty you are a superstar Roger.” ~ Dave

"The Logical Song is very autobiographical. When I was young, life was very magical. I have old 8-mm movies of me as a little child and I was just a joy bubble, as most children are at that age. Then they sent me away. Well, I was sent to boarding school. 'They sent me away to teach me how to be sensible,' and that was where confusion set in, really. I was taught all these ways to be and behave and it was not all bad but it definitely set in a level of confusion to what I felt when I was much younger. So when I left school, the burning question that came down to its rawest place was 'please tell me who I am,' and that's basically what the song is about." ~ Roger Hodgson

Here’s what fans said last year after
Roger’s concerts at Pechanga!
“My boyfriend and I saw you at Pechanga in Temecula 2/26/11 -- WOW what a treat!! Your voice, your music is truly unique. My favorite back in the day was, and I was so hooked on, Breakfast in America, but I heard some of your other tunes and they were absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend's favorite was Even in the Quietest Moments. We were so glad we went. And we look forward to seeing you again.” ~ Rosie & Tom
“My son and I attended the Sat. show @Pechanga. It was fantastic. I attend dozens of shows per year and yours was one of the finest.” ~ David B.
“I had the great pleasure of going to your opening show at Pechanga casino. I had been waiting thirty- three years to see you perform live. Your show was more than I could have ever hoped for. Your music has enlightened my life in so many ways. I had tears of happiness. You had touched something deep in my soul. I just want to say "Thank You" It was a night of song that I will always treasure in my heart. You give more than just a little bit!” ~ Mary H.
“Your 2/26/11 show was just wonderful and I'm still flying high from it. Many times during the show, I was in disbelief that I was actually seeing you live and it was a dream come true for me. I have your Live in Montreal dvd and it's fantastic but it doesn't measure up to actually seeing you in person. My husband went to the merchandise table before the show and brought a gift back for me: an autographed copy of "Open the Door.” It is my new favorite cd. I LOVED your performance of "Along
Came Mary" and on the way home from the show, I was very happy when I put the cd
on and it kicks off with that song. Wow! We drove over an hour away to see your show and I played your cd the whole way home and it comforted me through the pouring rain. Thank you Maestro ~ please return again!” ~ Evelyn G.

CLASSICS LIVE REVIEW
by David Wild, Contributing Editor, Rolling Stone
For most of my life, I've loudly and proudly identified myself as a Supertramp fan. All these years later, I listen with awe to the altogether stunning new Classics Live album only to discover that I am, in fact, first and foremost, a major Roger Hodgson fan. His is the voice that spoke to me as a young man, and speaks to me even more powerfully all these years later. An utterly inspired collection of live performances of the best-loved songs that Roger Hodgson has written and sung to date, Classics Live reminds us in the most vivid way who brought the world such beloved rock standards as "Give A Little Bit," "Take The Long Way Home," "The Logical Song" and "Dreamer," and why these shining songs endure as deeply personal yet somehow universal expression of longing, love and our endless search for human connection. Hodgson's performances on Classics Live were recorded in various venues around the world -- from France to Brazil to Germany to Venezuela. Some of the performances here are acoustic, some with a small rock band; others find Hodgson backed by an orchestra too, and yet the entire album holds together as the deeply felt song cycle of a lifetime from an artist who for too long has been too humble to lay claim to his own remarkable musical legacy. Roger Hodgson may have taken the long way home, but with Classics Live he's back and he has never sounded better.
Christmas Message from Roger
To all our friends around the world, my team and I want to wish you all a love filled Christmas and a New Year filled with hope and new beginnings. We are planning another full touring year for 2012 and hope to see many of you again coming together in musical celebration.
Feeling the love and support from all of you this past year has touched us very deeply and is part of the reason why we’re all ready to 'give a little bit' again next year.
We look forward to seeing you.
Bob Harris continues to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic music TV show. Each programme looks at one complete series of the original Old Grey Whistle Test and includes archive recordings alongside new interviews and recorded sessions with guests from the featured series.
Programme four covers the series that ran from September 1974 to July 1975. Roger Hodgson joins Bob in the studio to reminisce about the programme and perform an exclusive version of one of his hits with Supertramp. There is more live music from Kiki Dee, who along with guitarist Carmelo Luggeri provides a unique take on a Kate Bush classic, as well as one of her own hits from the Whistle Test years. Paul Rodgers talks about Bad Company's appearance on the show - when they were asked to turn the volume down - and there's archive interview highlights from Bob's meeting in New York with John Lennon.
