Hodgson ließ Supertramp auferstehen
Die größten Hits seiner Solo-Karriere (Had A Dream) und alle Klassiker seiner Ex-Band. 32 Jahre nach dem Aussteig ließ Roger Hodgson gestern (21-JUN) auf der Burg Clam Supertramp wieder auferstehen. Die WEGOTIT-Kritik.
Als Roger Hodgson gestern (21-JUN) vor 5.000 Fans auf der Burg Clam seinen Support-Slot für Toto startete begann es leicht zu regnen. „Ich denke ich singe It’s Raining Again erst ganz zum Schluss, vielleicht hilft es ja,“ scherzte er dazu – und wirklich: das Wetter hielt.
Das Hodgson-Konzert sowieso. Vom Opener Take The Long Way Home bis zum versprochenen Finale It’s Raining Again lieferte die Supertramp-Legende ein 80 Minütiges Hitfeuerwerk aus Solo- (In Jeopardy) und Supertramp-Krachern (The Logical Song).
Bis 1983 war Roger Hodgson das Herz, Hirn und die Stimme von Supertramp. Mit dem Kultalbum Famous Last Words und der dazugehörigen Tournee verabschiedete er sich von seinen kongenialen Partner Rick Davies. Sämtliche Reunions-Versuche scheiterten, auch weil Supertramp zur 40th anniversary Tour anno 2010 mit Hodgsons Stimme warben. „Eine Vorspiegelung falscher Tatsachen“ zürnte der und verlor nun auch auf der Burg Clam kein Wort über seine Ex-Band, die übrigens am 28-NOV in Ischgl aufspielt.
Ständig zwischen Piano (Child Of Vision) und Gitarre (School) wechselnd stimmte Hodgson im Burghof auch die Solo-Rarität Along Came Mary und die epochale Mini-Oper Fool’s Overture an („Ich hab drei Jahre gebraucht bis ich kapiert habe, dass diese drei Teile zu einem Song verschmelzen müssen“) und bewunderte die schönste Konzert-Location Österreichs: „Das ist nun schon mein drittes Konzert auf der Burg Clam. Ich komme immer wieder gerne her. Ich liebe Österreich und verbringe auch immer meinen Urlaub hier.“
Nach von den 5.000 Fans lautstark gefeierten Mitsing-Klassikern wie Breakfast In America oder Dreamer gab’s als Zugabe („Ich tue jetzt so als würde ich abgehen und wiederkommen“) noch die Über-Hits Give A Little Bit und It’s Raining Again. Da lachte dann sogar kurz die Sonne mit.
Gegen diese mitreißende Hodgson-Lehrstunde hatten die Headliner Toto trotz Welthits wie Hold The Line, Rosanna oder Africa keine Chance: leicht belanglose Virtuositäten ohne große Emotionen.

The greatest hits of his solo career (Had A Dream) and all the classics of his ex-band. Thirty-two years after Supertramp, the Aussteig saw Roger Hodgson yesterday (21-Jun) again at the Burg Clam. The WEGOTIT-Critique.
As Roger Hodgson performed yesterday (21-Jun) before 5,000 fans at the Burg Clam in support for Toto it began to rain lightly. "I think if I wait to sing It's Raining Again until the very end, maybe it will help," he joked - and truly: the weather held.
From opener Take The Long Way Home to the promised final It's Raining Again, the Supertramp legend gave a 80 minute show from solo albums (In Jeopardy) and Supertramp years (The Logical Song).
Until 1983, Roger Hodgson was the heart, brain, and the voice of Supertramp. After the cult album Famous Last Words and the associated tour, he said goodbye to his congenial partner Rick Davies. All reunion attempts failed, partly because the Supertramp 40th Anniversary Tour of 2010 campaigned with Hodgson's voice. Angry “false pretenses" lost now at the Burg Clam and no mention about his ex-band.
Constantly between piano (Child of Vision) and guitar (School), Hodgson played the solo rarity Along Came Mary and the epic mini-opera Fool's Overture (“I had three separate pieces of music that merged into the song") and admired "the most beautiful concert venue in Austria. This is already my third concert at the Castle Clam. I keep coming back here. I love Austria and also spend my vacation here always."
After the 5,000 fans had a sing-along to classics like Breakfast in America and Dreamer, Hodgson gave an encore ("I will come back”) of Give a Little Bit and It's Raining Again.
Against this rousing Hodgson, the headliner Toto had no chance despite hits like Hold The Line, Rosanna or Africa: they were slightly inconsequential virtuosities without emotion.
